Nate Crawford joins Cache Valley Native Plants as Native Plant Technician

christensensky

Hi everyone, my name is Nate Crawford.

I'm an alumnus of the Quinney College of Natural Resources at Utah State University with a degree in Conservation and Restoration Ecology. I focused on ecology and native plant taxonomy. I have worked three seasons with the Forest Service in Idaho and eastern Oregon, three years with the Wetland Ecology and Restoration Lab at Utah State learning about seeds and spending a lot of time in the Great Salt Lake and Utah Lake wetlands, and four seasons in Zion National Park. I have a lot of experience IDing, collecting seed, growing, and planting native plants that I am eager to share with the public.

When I’m not thinking about native plants, I could be found taking walks around Logan, riding my bike, rock climbing, hiking, cross country skiing, tending to my houseplants, crocheting, or cooking.

I believe in land stewardship. I used to think the best way to help our public lands was by finding endangered species, grazing responsibly, logging responsibly, restoring overused habitats, and giving a voice to our plants and animals that do not have one. With the future of our public lands uncertain, I've realized how important private land will be for the conservation of native plants and the many creatures that depend on them. My mode of land stewardship has changed. Now more than ever it is important to educate the public about how easily they can impact the ecosystems they live in. My goal is to share my education and excitement for native plants and the native bugs and birds that love them even more than I do.

Cache Valley Native Plants is exactly where I want to be. I want to grow plants, learn, educate people, work with people, and create meaningful connections all to serve the land I love and the creatures that also call Utah home.
