California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is a beautiful, showy wildflower with a distinct orange cup that behaves as an annual in most Utah climates, meaning this plant will not overwinter, but comes back from profilic reseeding from year to year. The blossoms will appear under fern-like foliage when soil temperatures warm up in mid to late spring and last until the heat of summer sends them into dormancy. These flowers are very adaptable and drought tolerant. Plant them in large areas or naturalistic plantings where reseeding is desired such as prairie or meadow gardens, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, etc. They are a gorgeous companion plant for blue or purple flowers.
