Penstemon (Penstemon linarioides coloradoensis) 'Silverton Bluemat' is a Plant Select cultivar that features handsome silvery, evergreen leaves that remain attractive all year round, even persisting throught the winter months. Beautiful blue and purple flowers appear in May and last through June. This shorter penstemon variety is an excellent choice for placing near the front of dry garden beds and borders, rock gardens, and xeric gardens. It does best in dry, sandy, poor soils and will not tolerate heavy moisture or added fertility. Deadheading the first two years to avoid seed set will result in a stronger plant. After the first two years, allow the plant to go to seed and gently fill in the surrounding area.
