Pinyon Pine (Pinus edulis) 'Thompson Brother's Broom' is a delightful dwarf conifer found by the Thompson brothers in southern Colorado. This petite pine forms a mound similar to 'Trinidad' or 'Farmy', but with a flat top, rather than a globe shape. This petite grower will only add 1-3" per year and form a compact mound over time. The green to gray-green needles are short and compact and add beautiful winter color and texture. 'Thompson Brothers Broom' is extremely drought tolerant and handles poor soils, making it perfect for year round interest in xeric garden beds and borders, rock gardens, or Mediterranean style garden beds. For best results, plant in sandy or loam soil with good drainage and be careful not to overwater.
