Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) 'Mary Ann Heacock' is a gorgeous, true genetic dwarf conifer discovered by Mary Ann Heacock in Colorado. The original tree was estimated to be over 200 years old! The needles are about half the size of regular Ponderosa needles with a slight curve, and their growth is very compact. The form shown in the photo is the natural branching form the plant assumes on its own, making it look like a bonsai specimen with no bonsai experience necessary! 'Mary Ann Heacock' is the perfect plant to add unique, year-round interest to garden beds and borders, rock gardens, Japanese style gardens, or the sunny area just outside of woodland or shade gardens. For best results, plant in sandy or loam soil with good drainage.
