Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) is a perennial wildflower that forms clumps of aromatic foliage topped with masses of lilac or purple tubular flowers that are arranged around a globular head. These flowers bloom for weeks, from about mid-summer to early fall and attract a large number of native pollinators, including specialist bees. The leaves can also be used to make an tea. This plant will spread by self-seeding and shallow rhizomes, but it not generally considered very aggressive and is easy to stay on top of. Plant with other competitive wildflowers like yarrow in pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, or naturalistic prairie or meadow plantings.
